They are logical, and as styles, can easily be redefined to meet whatever formatting you need. For example, List Bullet has a bullet and a hanging indent List Continue has a left indent that matches the hanging indent used in the List Bullet and the List Number styles, etc. If you apply them to a bunch of sample paragraphs, you can see the default formatting - and how they are related to one another.

Scroll down to the "L" area to see all of the built-in list-related styles. When you click OK, you'll now see a long list of styles listed alphabetically. To keep your sanity, in the next box ("Select how list is sorted"), use the pulldown to choose the "Alphabetical" option.In the "Select styles to show box" use the pulldown to choose the "All styles" option.Open the Styles dialog (Alt-Ctrl-Shift-s) and click the "Options." button in the lower right corner.Where are the built-in styles? Good question - and not at all as intuitive as it should be to access them IMHO!

You can modify them to suite whatever formatting you need, and set up your own keyboard shortcuts if you don't like what is included already.
